It was very cold when we came back after the Christmas break. It was so cold (-27 with the windchill) that we had a lot of indoor recesses.
Our class celebrated the epiphany by making stars that we put together to make a big star.
In math we worked on symmetry. We used pattern blocks to make symmetrical patterns that had either a vertical or a horizontal line of symmetry, or both. We also continued to work on our subtraction skills with mad minute and by brushing up on our subtraction with regrouping.
Science and language was combined a lot this week as we learned about procedural writing while learning more about how to build a stable structure. It was a lot of fun making columns out of photocopy paper (GOOS good on one side), construction paper and heavier stock paper. We discovered that folding the paper with small accordion folds made the strongest columns.
In gym we played number soccer, practiced putting on snowshoes, and danced to songs from Go Noodle. We also did a little science in gym by trying to make our bodies as stable as we could and having our partner try to gently push us to make us lose our balance.
We had a great start to 2015. We hope you did too!
