Education week at SEAS was very busy. On Monday we had a beautiful liturgy that was followed by Mr. Rogers giving a cheque to OK Clean Water. It was a cheque for $6115.44! Wow! That's a lot of money! Nora got a SIMPLE t-shirt at the assembly. She generously donated her hair to make wigs for cancer patients at CHEO. On Tuesday we put our persistence, resilience and grit to the test with a school wide PRG activity. Each class got some marshmallows and spaghetti. We got into groups of 3 and tried to build the tallest tower that we could. Mrs. Perrin, Mr. Rogers, Mrs. MacDonald and Mrs. Charelli built a tower that was 1 metre tall. Our tallest tower was 62 centimetres tall, almost 2/3 rds of the way there. We also got to go outside and measure the playground. On Wednesday we had our Art Sale during the bagel breakfast. It was really exciting. We all had jobs like: cashier, security guard and tour guide. It was very fun. We raised $254 and sold almost every piece of art. During the first block our parents came to visit our classroom. Our parents helped us with a measuring activity. On Thursday we started making Mother's Day cards based on the story "The Runaway Bunny" by Margaret Wise Brown. On Friday we had Literacy Cafe. The boys and girls did a great job reading in both English and French. We hope all the mothers have a great Mother's Day.

We had a great week, but the best thing was going to the Art Gallery. It was so much fun. We saw so many of the paintings that we had talked about in class. In science we did an experiment with friction. Each group put weights in a small box that had an elastic at the end of it. We pulled the elastic and measured it as we were pulling the weights. Then we put straws under the boxes and pulled and measured the elastic again. The box was a lot easier to pull with the reduced friction. In Math we have been talking about reflections, translations and rotations (flips, slides and turns). In Language we've been writing about our favourite books and explaining to others why we like them so much. We finished up our posters for the Art Sale. We are really looking forward to our Art Sale next week. Have a great weekend.
We had a great trip to the National Art Gallery. Write a few sentences to share what you saw at the gallery today.
Are Magnificent Earth day Week!
On Monday are class was learning about magnets! ( Did you know that magnets have a North pole and a South pole?) they’re really cool. We also learned about 3D shapes. We learned there is at least 1 vertice on all 3d shapes (except for spheres of course). Our class learned about Edges too. We also celebrated Earth Day by making some scrap paper people and we wrote some prayers to God. This week we had a beautiful Easter Mass. Everyone thought that the Grade 3 students did an amazing job with the readings. Our class made daffodils and tulips to decorate the gym. We also made some origami frogs.
In Math we have been having lots of fun working on moving on a grid. In Language we are writing Pirate stories. There are some really good ones that we will share on our website. In Gym we are playing basketball. In Science we have been exploring magnets. In Art we have been looking at some of the paintings that we might see on our trip. We had a magnet – ficent week. We have been studying magnets in Science and it has been a lot of fun. In gym we have been working on our basketball skills. Our language has included reading stories and then answering questions together as we prepare for E.Q.A.O. next month. We have been working on fractions and on probability in class. In Art we have been making flowers to decorate the gym for our special Easter Mass next week. We have also been making plans for our Art Show on Wednesday, May 6th. It is less than a month away.
In Religion we learned about Doubting Thomas, and we also found out about Divine Mercy Sunday and Sister Faustina. S.E.A.S. for Change had a cake raffle on Friday. Demid only had one ticket, but he won a donut cake. Congratulations. It really shows you that even though you have a better chance of winning if you have more tickets, you only need one ticket to win. Congratulations to S.E.A.S. for Change too. They raise over $1100 to help to build a school in Ghana. Holy week at St.Elizabeth Ann Seton is very special. We have been studying the story of Jesus from Palm Sunday until His Resurrection. We are all retelling the Easter Story from someone’s point of view. We brainstormed for people that were there when these events were happening. Everyone chose a point of view to retell the story from. In Math we have been learning about probability. It is a lot of fun. We started talking a little bit about magnets in science this week. The Grade 5 students presented the “Stations of the Cross” to us on Thursday. We hope you have a great Easter Weekend.
