Terry Fox is a Canadian hero because he taught the world that an ordinary person can do extraordinary things if they have a dream and they have determination. 32 years later he continues to inspire us. :)
Terry Fox IS my hero. He had a dream, and set his mind to a goal. Terry trained so he could run as far and as long as he could. He ran in sun and heat; in cold and rain; he ran when he wasn't feeling well; he ran when no one paid attention. He ran when he didn't feel like running. Why? Because he had a dream. A dream to raise money and awareness to get rid of cancer so no one (especially children) would ever have to suffer like he suffered. He knew that whether or not he finished his journey he had to run towards his dream.
Terry Fox was a Canadian Hero. He showed us that perseverance in the face of adversity can accomplish great things, even when things seem bleak or the odds seem stacked against us. Terry Fox dedicated his life to spreading cancer awareness and raising funds for The Marathon of Hope.
Terry Fox is a Canadian hero because he proved that it only takes one person to make a difference.

Terry Fox is a great hero because he showed us that one person can unite an entire nation to one goal, even if that person is missing a leg! He made himself into a beacon of hope for those struggling with cancer, even years after his marathon ended.

I just wish when Terry Fox ran through the town of Hawkesbury during his Marathon of Hope, back when I was a teenager, that I would have "ran" beside him for a few miles. I really didn't understand who he was until after his journey was over. I've been participating in the Terry Fox Run now for 16 years and truly know why he is a Canadian hero. He was brave and courageous to keep on "running" through his pain and he never gave up; until he had to. I hope I can keep participating in his Marathon of Hope for many years to come, and that we raise enough money to find a cure for cancer in our life time. Thank You Terry Fox for being such an inspiration. You will never be forgotten.
Terry Fox is a true Canadian hero because of his incredible display of courage and determination while battling his own illness in order to help all those affected by cancer.

Terry Fox represents courage, kindness, strength, family and Faith! To believe in oneself, with purpose and determination. To achieve that all things are possible with belief and Faith no matter how hard the battle. That every road begins with one step, one we take together. Largo Cres, Ottawa
Terry fox is our hero!
I was very proud of how you kept going, even when you were tired, during our Terry Fox run today.
Terry Fox is a hero because he lived the Gospel values and set an example for us to follow. He demonstrated love for others, dignity, faith, and most of all hope. He once said,"It's all an attitude whatever your situation in life. The situation I'm in ...I could be down. I could be depressed. I could be feeling sorry for myself ... but I've got to have hope."
Terry Fox is a Canadian hero because he tried to run across Canada and he had a dream and he followed it. Terry did not want other people to suffer like he did.
This is a very good point Kallie. I met someone this weekend who had the same type of cancer that Terry Fox had, and she is now completely cured! She did not have to lose her leg like Terry did and she is now living cancer free. I wonder if there would have been enough money for the research into this type of cancer if Terry hadn't had the courage to begin The Marathon of Hope.
Terry Fox is a national hero and a role model for many people because of his profound love, support and care for other people who are in pain. He gave up his own life in return for better care and treatment for the entire populations of the world who are truly in pain and need help. He has really changed our world.
Thanks for the reply Anush. I know that there are Terry Fox runs in over 50 countries in the world. Is there a Terry Fox run in Tajikistan?
Terry Fox was a canadian hero because he not only tired running a across Canada with one real leg and an artificial leg. He also brought universal awareness to cancer. He helped raised money for cancer research. He also gave his life to cancer research.
I viewTerry Fox as a Canadian hero because his courage and determination, even when he was very sick, inspired our entire country. I remember being at St. Mary's Elementary school in Gloucester with my entire class following his journey (in the newspapers, not on the internet!). If his journey was happening now I can only imagine how he might have blogged, tweeted or updated his Facebook status to further inspire children and adults with each step he took!
Terry Fox is a Canadian hero because he conducted his Marathon of Hope before the advent of social media. When he set out to raise money and awareness for cancer research by running across Canada, little attention was paid to his campaign. There were no twitter updates and youtube videos to keep him in the public awareness. He persevered, running lonely miles along the desolate highway, because he believed in the cause Eventually, publicity grew and people came out to support him, but his heroic efforts to get started should be an inspiration to all Canadians.

Our class thinks he is a hero because he raised money to help others by running with one real leg and one artificial leg and never gave up. He did not want others to suffer like he did.
So nice to hear from our new friends from Texas. Did you already know who Terry Fox was, or did you have to do a little research before you answered our blog?

No, we did not know who Terry Fox was before responding to your blog. We had to find out who he was and what he did. We used the internet to do our research.
We think Terry Fox is a hero because he wanted to help raise money to find a cure for cancer. He is hero to us because he died trying to fight cancer. He was so brave because he ran on the highway and at times it was really dangerous. Even when his artificial leg was sore and bleeding, he never gave up. Terry ran in all kinds of weather. Even though some people doubted him, he kept going. We think he is an awesome hero.
So nice to hear from our new friends from Swan River, Manitoba. We agree that Terry Fox is an awesome hero! Do you have a Terry Fox run at your school?

Wow, it's so good to hear from our fellow Ontarians from Kingsville. Your comments are all so true! Terry Fox continues to inspire us every day. We often think about him when we are ready to give up and he helps us hang in until we finish. We are very lucky to have someone like Terry Fox as part of our Canadian heritage.
