Hi everyone. Everyone had a great week in 3A, and we hope that you had a great week too. On Monday we had a W.I.T.S. assembly. A firefighter took the WITS oath with us, and then he read us the book “Each Kindness”. Some of the grade 4, 5 and 6 students performed some skits and showed us the new vests that the WITS patrol wear on duty at recess. Striker was at the assembly too! On Tuesday the whole school went to a Remembrance Day ceremony to honour the people in the military. After the ceremony Rebecca’s parents came in to talk to us about their lives in the military. Isabella’s grandmother made each of us a crocheted poppy to wear on Remembrance Day.
In Math we have been investigating place value. Our Math Inquiry task was to work with a partner to find different 3 digit numbers we could make with the roll of a die. We also reviewed the symbols for greater than and less than. Mrs. Aubrey showed us an alligator to help us remember the symbols.
In English we have been working on character traits. We have been writing a piece called “Celebrating Me” where we are describing ourselves and using adjectives and detail to bump up our work. We have also been working on using feedback that Mrs. Aubrey gives us and applying it to our 2nd rough copy. Mrs. Aubrey gave us feedback about our celebrating me writing as well as our perseverance bitstrips. Most of us completed our bitstrips and they will be added to a perseverance bulletin board that Mrs. Perrin is creating. Our favourite book that we read this week was “Bunny the Brave War Horse”. The book is about a horse in WWI and it is based on a true story.
A friend of Mrs. Aubrey came in on Wednesday to teach us some music. We sang a couple of songs and had a lot of fun. In Art we made poppies for our class wreath. In technology we worked on a Math activity in the Ontario Education Resource Bank and we finished our perseverance bitstrips. In gym we played a new tag game called “Catch Tag”. It was lots of fun.
On Thursday it was “dress as a famous person” day. Our school donations, to help to build a school in Ghana , totalled more than $400. Wow! We had a few hockey players, some soccer players, a lacrosse player, Kitty Perry, Arianna Grande, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, an animal trainer, a hip hop star, Daniel Radcliffe and the dude from Minecraft. Mrs. Aubrey dressed up as Emmy Noether, a famous mathematician who figured out some of the Math that Einstein needed to write the theory of Relativity. Mr. Rogers dressed up as Mr. Rogers from the Neighbourhood.
In Religion we started studying the Good Samaritan. We talked about how we can be good Samaritans in real life and online too. Next week we will be talking about “digital citizenship” and how important it is to be a Good Samaritan online. Anti-bullying week is next week and we kicked it off with an assembly on Friday afternoon. Next Wednesday is White-Out Wednesday.
It was a very busy week, but a very fun week. We are looking forward to telling you more about our class next week.
